SGEA: 2026 “Being Human”

UFCOM faculty and students recently attended the annual AAMC Southern Group on Educational Affairs (SGEA) meeting in New Orleans. This year’s theme, “Being Human,” focused on the importance of preserving humanistic values such as professionalism, empathy, and communication in medical education during a rapidly evolving AI era.

The conference featured an inspiring plenary session by Dr. Belinda Fu, family physician, educator, and internationally recognized leader in medical improv, on the role of medical improv in fostering communication, adaptability, and connection in healthcare education. During her talk, Dr. Fu also recognized UFCOM’s own Dr. Briana Tierno for her oral presentation on medical improv for standardized patients, highlighting UFCOM’s leadership in innovative educational practices that are influencing institutions nationwide.
