Overview and Mission
The UF Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation is a world-class facility with expertise in educational theory; simulation-based training; human factors and communication; assessment and evaluation; and research. Our fellowship provides an emphasis on measurement and research, with the goal of developing leaders capable of advancing the field of simulation. At the end of the fellowship, fellows will have a portfolio reflecting training, assessment, and scholarship activities.

- Program development, implementation and evaluation

- Incorporation of simulation into quality improvement
- In situ simulation

- Evaluation of simulation technology
Fellow Opportunities and Responsibilities
Clinical
- Varies depending upon specialty and discipline
Educational
- Design, develop, pilot, implement, and assess one educational program
- Participate in trainee simulations relevant to the fellow’s specialty
- Prepare to obtain certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare
- Complete UF College of Education Program Evaluations in Educational Environments master’s program
- Attend the International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare annually
Research
- Complete one original research project, including submission to a peer-reviewed journal.
Quality Improvement and Patient Safety
- Participate in clinical meetings and reviews
- Develop simulations to address key clinical needs
- Work with faculty to implement simulation-based training for new clinical processes
Duration of training program
- Fellowship term will be for 24 months, beginning on July 1 of the academic year
- Fellows will complete UF College of Education Program Evaluations in Educational Environments master’s program
- 1 year fellowships will be considered on a case-by-case basis
Application process
All physician applicants must be board-eligible or board certified graduates of an ACGME-accredited residency and must obtain/maintain a Florida medical license. Non-physician healthcare practitioners must meet licensing requirements for employment within the UF Shands healthcare system.
